The purpose of the Lions ALERT Program is to help our community in the event of any disaster and the single most common disaster is MOTHER NATURE! The Lions Clubs International Foundation (LCIF) was there to help in 2004 – Tsunami Relief, 2005 – Hurricane Katrina, and again in 2008 China Earthquake. How can the Lions ALERT Program can help within our community? The first step is to develop an Emergency Response Plan (ERP). Our goal with this seminar is assign a chairperson on the Lions ALERT Program and to develop a plan to assist when disaster might strike locally. The recent event that could have helped if we had an ALERT plan was the 2010 Ice Storm. To help people in our community if they had no power or heat for a long period of time. Luckily the City and the County was prepared and did an excellent job keeping us safe but could a local ALERT Plan would have helped in case the event took for the worse? Helping with blankets, water, and other critical essential items to keep us safe.

We were happy that Lion Melton (Buzz) gave us the spark to start our own local ALERT program. The seminar was great!
